A Berkley-based animal rescue organization, No Dogs Left Behind, has announced they are giving away a free emotional support puppy to someone in need of a furry companion.
The foster-based nonprofit is accepting applications from individuals and families who could benefit from having an emotional support animal. Research has demonstrated that interacting with dogs can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression through simple activities like petting.
"We want to give back to the community that has supported us," said Nikki Follis, a volunteer with No Dogs Left Behind. "This is our way of saying thank you while helping someone who could truly benefit from a canine companion."
While the puppy will be provided at no cost, potential owners must demonstrate they can financially support the animal's ongoing needs including food, veterinary care, and other expenses.
Interested candidates can apply by sending an email to 0dogsleftbehind@gmail.com describing how they would benefit from an emotional support puppy. Applications will be accepted through March 15, with the selected recipient being announced in April.
The chosen individual or family will have the opportunity to select a puppy that matches their personality and lifestyle from the organization's available rescues.
This initiative aims to both support mental health in the community while finding a loving home for a rescue puppy in need.
