A remarkable tale of survival emerged from Jasper, Alberta, as a family black and white tabby named Felix was found alive after spending over 100 days in the wilderness following a devastating summer wildfire.
Nicole Klopfenstein, a 41-year-old animal health technician, was caring for her sister's black and white tabby when emergency evacuation orders forced some 5,000 Jasper residents to flee advancing flames. During the chaotic exodus to nearby Valemount, B.C., Felix escaped from a friend's arms and disappeared into the unfamiliar terrain.
