A stray Tibetan Mastiff named Sprout has undergone an incredible transformation thanks to a Chicago rescue organization's intervention, going from severely neglected to comfortable and cared for in just a matter of days.

When One Tail at a Time (OTAT) first encountered Sprout, the dog was struggling under the weight of over 30 pounds of matted fur mixed with urine and feces. Chicago Animal Care & Control alerted OTAT to the dog's concerning condition, prompting an immediate response from the rescue team.

The extensive makeover required veterinary staff to don full surgical gear and sedate Sprout for the procedure. During the grooming session, the team removed exactly 32.4 pounds of matted fur that had been causing the dog constant pain, discomfort, and a severe skin infection.

"For the first time in who knows how long, Sprout can urinate, defecate, walk, and lay down without pain," OTAT shared on social media, documenting the dramatic transformation.

The rescue's efforts didn't stop at the grooming. Sprout is now thriving in a foster home where she receives ongoing treatment for her skin infection. Recent updates show the Tibetan Mastiff contentedly lounging on a sofa and enjoying hand-fed meals while sporting a cozy onesie.

OTAT, which recently celebrated its 17th anniversary and over 12,000 animal rescues, continues to monitor Sprout's progress. The organization promises to keep supporters updated on her journey from neglected stray to cherished companion.

The heartwarming transformation demonstrates how proper care and attention can dramatically improve an animal's quality of life, with Sprout serving as a shining example of rescue work's impact.
